AuthorYou and I are authors. I’m not specifically talking about people like Tom Clancy, Beth Moore, William Shakespeare, Max Lucado or JRR Tolkien; popular names on the ‘Best Sellers List’, who have written impacting works of art. But rather average, ordinary people like you and I, who live their life every day wanting the most out of what this life has to offer. People who get up each day with struggles, cares and concerns – just wanting today to be better than yesterday. And deep down inside, I believe we all want the end of our lives to be the conclusion of lives well lived.

An author who prepares to write a story, doesn’t just start at page 1 and begin writing whatever comes to mind. They typically have a plan, or at least a general outline with a desired outcome. They desire their book to have purpose and value, with every word written with the end in mind. Page after page, they fill their book with intentional plots and sub-plots, twists and turns, surprises and detours; all leading the reader to a conclusion that brings meaning and significance to the story as a whole.

Similarly, each of our lives are like a great novel being written before our eyes. New pages are being added each day with every decision we make, ever response to life’s surprises, the way we treat others and the purpose by which we live our life. And, I don’t know of any good novel that’s been written that doesn’t have its share of unknowns, unplanned detours and surprises and sometimes wild twists and turns. But, in writing these, the author always has the end in mind. There is a point to all of it.

Let’s live our lives the same… with purpose in everything we do because it all matters. Every day is another addition to our story that is hopefully leading us to the outcome we desire. So, how do we live an ‘on purpose’ life? How do we make our life’s story lead down a path that result in the ‘last chapter’ being what we want it to be? For starters – set a goal as to how you’d like your life to matter; to make a difference in the lives of those around you. Then live it each and every day with intention. Make everything you do be about reaching that goal.

So whatever it takes, I will be one who lives in the fresh newness of life of those who are alive from the dead.’ – Philippians 3:11 (LB)
