Perspective: Confident Peace

throne-of-godWanted to share an ‘experience’ I had during this last Sunday’s music/worship time at church.

The worship band was playing Israel Houghton’s song ‘Your Presence is Heaven to Me’. I was singing along with my eyes closed, when my mind began to unfold an incredible scene. I saw myself walking; approaching a very large set of tall, wide doors. Not sure how, but I knew these to be the doors into the Throne Room of God.  The doors were shut and appeared to be locked. On either side of the doors stood two very large and intimidating looking angels/guards. As I approached the doors, the angels moved from their positions on the sides of the doors to directly in front, blocking my access. I was very aware that I really wanted/needed to enter through those doors. But, at that moment I also knew that I couldn’t. An overwhelming feeling of shame, rejection, embarrassment and sadness came over me for I knew it was because I wasn’t good enough, whole enough, clean enough, pure enough to stand before God. Feeling hopeless and despair, I watched myself turn and begin to slowly walk away. I had walked only a short distance from the doors when I felt a hand on my shoulder. Startled, I turned around to find myself face to face with Jesus. He didn’t say a word, but simply smiled, put his arm around my shoulders and turned me around toward the doors. He urged me to walk with him as a confident peace came over me. The angels were still in position in front as we approached the doors. It was then that Jesus spoke. He said, “It’s okay, Brian is mine – he belongs to me.‘ Immediately, the angels stepped aside, the doors opened and we walked inside together.

That will surely be a worship experience I will never forget for sure! The feeling of passing from hopelessness to one of confident peace with Jesus by my side is a definite ‘game-changer’!

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6
