Perspective: Muscles

Wexercise faithithout muscles in our body, we wouldn’t be able to move much. Our bones are ridged and unchanging; by themselves providing little flexibility. It’s the muscles attached to our bones that provide us the flexibility and mobility we need to do all the things our bodies are capable of. As such, the average human body contains about 640 muscles! What’s interesting to me is that with as much of our body we can’t change, it is our muscles that are one thing through exercise we can build and strengthen – giving us the ability to run longer, climb higher and swim farther.

Being a part of the ‘body’ of Christ is similar. The ‘bones’ are like the truths in God’s Word… unchanging and providing the needed structure for our lives. You and I are like the individual ‘muscles’, with the ability to grow and become strong in order to give the ‘body of Christ’ its ability to ‘run’ longer, ‘climb’ higher and ‘swim’ farther. The training necessary to get our ‘muscles’ where they need to be is the ‘exercising’ of our faith.

‘And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.’ – Heb 11:6
