Who is Jesus… part 2

Open Discussion Question: What draws, woos, brings people to repentance/forgiveness in Jesus Christ?

Recognizing sin                        Brokenness            Loss – personal/financial                         Lack of peace/freedom

Romans 2:4 – It is the goodness of God than brings people to repentance.

Open Discussion Question: What Does the ‘Goodness of God’ look like?

Examples in our own lives… what was it for us?

But He (Jesus) was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that

brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

He is the only one who can save us from our sin

He is the only one who can bring us true peace

He is the only one who can bring us real healing… body, mind and spirit

So you also are complete through your union with Christ… (Colossians 2:10)

No one… no thing… no position… no amount of $$ can ever make us ‘complete’ – only Jesus

Open Discussion Question: What does it mean to be made ‘right with God’?

God makes people right with himself through their faith in Jesus Christ… Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s glorious standard, and all need to be made right with God by his grace, which is a free gift. They need to be made free from sin through Jesus Christ. God sent him to die in our place to take away our sins. We receive forgiveness through faith in the blood of Jesus’ death. Romans 3:22-25

Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father, except through me.” John 14:6

He is our only connect to God the Father… through Him is the only way to Heaven

There is a right way to God…

They really try to follow God, but they do not know the right way. Because they did not know the way that God makes people right with him, they tried to make themselves right in their own way. So they did not accept God’s way of making people right. Christ ended the law so that everyone who believes in him may be right with God. (Romans 10:2-4)

What will we do with Jesus?… who we say He is the single greatest question we will ever answer – for all of our life will flow from that answer

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

Final Thoughts:

  • Jesus was never meant to be an ‘add-on’ to my life. He wants to be the ‘center hub’ (Colossians 1:16-18)
  • A meaningful, significant life can only be found in Jesus… everything else is like chasing shadows (John 10:10)
  • My greatest accomplishments in life are not found in giving millions of dollars to charity or volunteering thousands of hours to helping others or even giving my own life for someone else, but the greatest thing in life I could ever do is be a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and focus on knowing and loving Him and developing a solid, healthy relationship with Him.  Not that those other things are bad at all, but through the eyes of God, without Jesus, they mean very little. (Matthew 7:21-23)
