In our time of need – when we ask Him for help, aren’t you glad God is not like the drill sargent in the Geico commercial….

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16

I grew up as a young boy afraid of my dad – afraid of his discipline, afraid of his words, afraid of failing him.  When I came to know God, I viewed Him the same way I viewed my earthly father… I was afraid of him… waiting for the punishment to come.  But, God in His mercy and love for me began to change my perspective.  He began to help me see that God is love – not punishment and He rejoices over me and calls me His child.  If you struggle with a father who was (is) not a very good example of love, encouragement and hope, I ask you today to pray and ask God to teach you how to love.  Let Him be the example of a father to you – He is waiting.

(God is a) Father to the fatherless, defender of widows–this is God, whose dwelling is holy. Psalm 68:5

God is love… There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:16-18
